The Pretty Parasites Tarot guide
Four of Wands
Sandplain Christmas

Nuytsia floribunda (Western Australian Christmas tree; Loranthaceae), a root hemiparasite
Nuytsia is a tree-sized hemiparasite whose underground haustorial web spreads wide through the sandplain, tapping the roots of grasses, shrubs — anything within reach, famously including buried cables. It keeps its own green leaves and steals water and minerals. Each austral summer the whole tree ignites in masses of orange-gold bloom, a festival paid for in installments all year.
The Four is the stall pip — stability, rest, the pause between campaigns — and the old keyword lists give this card "excitement, high spirits, celebrating". Nuytsia resolves the contradiction beautifully: its rest is a celebration, but the celebration was budgeted for underground, one stolen cup of water at a time. The blaze is not a windfall. It is a dividend.
This is the card of earned arrival — the housewarming, the launch party, the defended thesis. The opportunity is real joy with a foundation under it: you may light up the whole sandplain because you spent the quiet months laying haustoria. The risk is the festival that borrows against a network it hasn't built — the celebration thrown on credit, the threshold painted orange over sand. Before you strike the match, check what your roots are actually touching.
Scene: one orange tree burning without smoke on a gray-green plain, its shadow drawn as a root-web reaching far beyond the canopy's edge.
Prompt: What are you currently celebrating, and who — or what — paid the water bill?
